10 Reading Challenges You Must Try This Year

Do you want to read more? Well, that’s what you put in your heart, on your vision board, and for some of us made the declaration on social media. Hey, I am right there with you and one way we can read more in 2025 is by starting a reading challenge.  If you are new here, my name is She Nell. I am an author, blogger, independent publisher, and Literacy teacher. I have a list of reading challenges that will spice up your TBR (To Be Read ) list and help you accomplish your reading goal

A to Z  reading  challenge

The A to Z reading challenge is very popular among the reading journal community. The goal is to read a book for each letter of the alphabet. For example, for the letter A readers may start with A Good Thing. Another variation to the challenge is to read based on the author’s name. Readers would read She Nell for the letter S or for the letter T- Tanisha Stewert. Yet another variation would be reading Tanisha Stewart for the letter S basing the choice on her last name.

Reading Around the World Challenge

This challenge requires readers to read books from authors in different countries. A variation could be to read books with settings in different countries. I find this challenge interesting because it exposes the reader to different cultures. If you are feeling very patriotic you may consider reading a book based on or by an author from each state in the United States or your place of origin.

Read your height challenge

While scrolling on Facebook I came across a person that read their height in 2024. Imagine Stacking all the physical books you read this year to see the height of your stack. Do you think you could reach your height in a year?

Read your age challenge

We all have heard the saying act your age. What if you read your age this year? This might not be the best challenge for the young people in our lives however if you are over 30 reading your age is a great challenge. You could also read 25 books in 2025.

The 12 Challenge- 12 months 12 books recommended by 12 friends

The 12 Challenge is another that has been floating around Facebook. As stated in the title you read 12 books recommended by 12 friends over the next 12 months. Friend, check out my article on the 2025 releases if you need some recommendations.

Read the Rainbow Challenge

As challenges go the Read The Rainbow Challenge is the prettiest. To complete this challenge you read books with covers for each rainbow color. Those with reading journals have colorful spreads showcasing their covers and the colors of the rainbow.

Author catalog Challenge

Do you have a favorite author? Challenge yourself to read everything in their catalog. I have completed this challenge a couple of times and love displaying the authors’ books on a dedicated shelf in my library.

Series Challenge

There is nothing like a great Series. We aren’t just talking about Netflix, authors have created amazing series that will keep you turning pages. Some series like No Love Like God’s Love (A Good Thing, If I be Lifted Up and Vengeance is Mine)  must be read in order. However, series like the Flawed But Faithful Series can be read in any order. Will you commit to reading a series this year?

Genre Challenge

The Genre Challenge Is a great way to explore outside of your normal reading patterns. Simply make a decision that you will read one book from each genre this year. Keep in mind that with the Christian Fiction umbrella, there is Romance, Suspense, Mystery, Historical, Thrillers, and more. Don’t Break the Chain Challenge

One of the most important reading challenges is Don’t Break the Chain. Whichever challenge or challenges you choose for the New Year try to do them daily. Don’t break the chain of reading for 2025.

Whichever challenge you choose this year the true challenge is to read more and read often. You may choose one or more than one challenge this year.
