Book Spotlight : Standing on the Enemy

This summer, I hit a seven-year milestone as a blogger and author. Seven years of providing information about Christian authors and great books, and I have loved every single post. Hi, my name is She Nell. I am an author, blogger, independent publisher, and Literacy teacher. In the spirit of putting my business out there, I am going to share with you one of the more personal stories I have written. While I maintain that all parts of the work are fiction, there is a little bit of truth on every page. Is TRUE-FICTION a thing? Hmm, well… let’s just say I can’t confirm or deny.  However , Latasha Toby is a real life person (different name) and my very best friend.

Background of the process, story behind Standing on the Enemy

Standing on the Enemy was a story I felt that I had to write. The main character, Vanessa Wells, and I had so much in common. Like Vanessa, I wanted to be an author but was told that being a starving artist was NOT and career choice. Much of that part of Vanessa’s story is based on my saga. Like Vanessa, I majored in education and taught, although I was not teaching during the writing of Standing on the Enemy. At that time, I took a couple of years off to work outside the classroom in a closely related field. Oddly, writing Vanessa’s story is what convinced me that I did not have to settle and I could follow more than one passion. Like Vanessa, I discovered that the biggest enemy was me, and the only way to overcome fear is to stand.

Standing on the Enemy synopsis

In the quiet corners of Vanessa Wells’ heart, dreams once thrived, fueled by the artistic legacy her mother bestowed upon her. But when tragedy claims her mother’s life, the ember of Vanessa’s passion is extinguished. Left without the support she craves, she succumbs to her father’s demands, shelving her aspirations for a career she despises.

As Vanessa navigates the mundane, a flicker of hope emerges when news of a life-altering contest reaches her ears. Energized by the possibility of resurrecting her dreams, she takes a leap, only to find herself ensnared in the harsh grip of a lie. Financial woes and skeptical voices echo louder than ever, pushing Vanessa to the brink of despair.

In the crucible of adversity, Vanessa confronts the painful echoes of ‘I told you so’ and grapples with a soul-crushing sense of loss. Yet, in the depths of her darkest moments, she discovers a reservoir of resilience. With courage as her compass and love by her side, Vanessa learns to mend her shattered dreams and dares to dream again.

Join Vanessa Wells on an inspiring journey of self-discovery, resilience, and the relentless pursuit of one’s true calling. In ‘Standing on the Enemy,’ witness the transformative power of hope as Vanessa rekindles the flames of her artistic spirit and, against all odds, emerges triumphant in her pursuit of a life filled with passion and purpose.”

Just like with Vanessa, the main character, so many times the enemy is within us. Telling us what we can’t do or be, but when we tune out, step on that voice and remember what God says, we win. Author She Nell’s latest book is true to her high caliber quality of story writing, her readers have come to expect and enjoy. You will laugh, cry, and cheer for Vaness,a and everyone should have a straight-up-chaser best friend like Latasha Toby❤️.

Never let someone else dictate your future. Parents, support your children and their dreams. We are our own worst enemy. This is the message I took away from this book. I highly recommend this book. I hope there is a sequel or a spinoff for Walt Jr and Gina
