In this post, we will explore how to build your TBR list. The TBR to be read list is a staple in every avid reader’s life. This is no different for the Christian reader. Warm weather in the South and a cool glass of ice tea scream for a stack of books to be read. There are three things an avid reader should consider when building their to-be-read list because a good book is easy to find.
To build your to be read list – check the list
Which list depends on the genre you are reading. As a reader of Christian Fiction, my first recommendation would be the African American and Black Bestselling Christian Fiction list. (Here) This list contains the top 100 in Christian Fiction, the Top 50 in Christian Fiction New Releases, and the top 100 in Free Christian Fiction. Good reads, the New York Times, and the USA Today list are also popular lists to view.
To create your to be read list look to YouTube.
YouTube or BookTube and AuthorTube are excellent resources for your to be read list. The host ( usually an avid reader) will share their to-be-read list. BookTubers have book clubs, challenges, and some offer author interviews. BookTubers are a great resource for honest reviews. AuthorTube can also be helpful if you are in the market for craft books and additional writing resources. AuthorTuber often link books in their descriptions below the video. YouTube has some audiobooks and snippets. A common trend in the author community is book trailers. Book trailers are like movie trailers, they provide information about the book. Think of the book trailer as the live-action version of the synopsis.
Phone a friend to build your to be read list
Friends don’t let friends go without good books. Chances are if you are an avid reader you have several friends that share the same passion for books. My best friend and I have a date night at the bookstore. We spend time together while looking through shelves of books. People spend hundreds of dollars on dinner and a movie. With my best friend, who is also my husband, we spend the same amount on books. There is nothing like candlelight, soft music, and books.
Bonus
For additional resources to help you create your to be read list check out social media. Facebook has many groups that are solely for and about reading. In these groups, you do not have to worry about authors spamming the group with their new releases. However, for books, some spam is good spam. Chances are your favorite author has a Facebook group for their readers. The She Reader’s Lounge is my Facebook group for my readers. Within an author’s Facebook Group you will interact with the author and fellow readers. My Facebook Group is the second place I go to alert readers of new projects. (The first place I go is my newsletter. )
If you are interested in building or remodeling your to be read list these tips will be helpful. Your to be read list can be formed using a wide verity of resources. Be sure to exhaust all avenues and remember your to be read list doesn’t have to end.
