How to Create a Book Nook

How to create a book nook

Every reader needs a cozy place to sit. A warm soft spot to enjoy the book of your choice is essential. In this post, we will explore must-haves for your book nook.

Storage for your book nook

Storage is a key element of a book nook. Your choice of storage will be the home for the books you have read and those that you will read. White shelves are popular for book storage however, there are several nontraditional ways to store books. Prior to purchasing my bookshelves (I have a brown shelf in the living area and white in my office) I used crates. My crates were not the fancy, colored crates sold at Walmart or any other local box store. I used old milk crates for the local convenient store. Baskets are another creative way to store books. You can stack arrange books neatly in a corner or on the side of your seat.

Seating for your book nook

Now that we have our books arranged it is time to create a soft place to land. Ideally, a comfortable couch or chair next to a window will work well. However, pillows on the floor or a soft blanket will do the trick. Creating a reading nook doesn’t have to be expensive and can grow over time. While on vacation in Vermont I created a short-term reading nook near a window using a blanket and pillow. I watched the snowfall, sipped tea, read, and brainstormed this blogsite. Your space can be anywhere as long as you are comfortable.

Book nook mood

After determining shelving and seating it is time to set the mood for reading. Your book nook mood can be set by playing soft music in the background. I often play lofty music from YouTube. You can also light candles to create the perfect reading mood. Your lighting options may include natural light from a window or even a small light in your reading nook. If you are a person that reads eBooks the device may be all the light you need.
