Denise is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet. She is also a wonderful writer and podcast host. I enjoy every interaction we have and you will too.
Tell me about your latest book.
My latest women’s Christian fiction is Sufficient Grace. This book is the second book in “The Redemption Series.” Sufficient Grace is the continuation of Hannah Jefferson’s story. In book one, she finds out she has the condition of endometriosis. She is also struggling with overcoming spiritual barrenness.
In book two, Hannah is now a Christian, yet she continues to struggle with the condition of endometriosis. Now walking by faith, she believes God will answer her prayers and give her a miracle. However, the journey is not easy. In the end, Hannah and others around her come to understand that God’s grace is enough, and He can do anything but fail.
Why did you choose to become a Christian Fiction Author?
I chose to begin writing when I came to realize that many may not pick up the Bible, but they might pick up a book that could lead them to Christ through the realistic fictional characters I create.
What inspired you to write it?
I was inspired to write Sufficient Grace because I also struggled with the condition of endometriosis and spiritual barrenness. I am a living witness that God is able to do anything.
What is your writing process? (Do you write at a certain time, a certain place, use a notebook first?)
I don’t know that I have a set process. I plan out my stories first using notecards, in OneNote digitally, or on chart paper with sticky notes. Then, I grab my computer and start writing. I only write my nonfiction/Bible journaling/verse mapping ideas in a notebook first, not my fiction.
What is the best part of being an author?
The best part of being an author is being able to touch the heart of others through my fiction and Bible study resources.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Because I love Christian fiction, there would be too many to name. I love the genre and how God uses his people.
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
Well, I have over 800 books on my Kindle alone, so I have lots of reading to do. I am most excited to read, women’s Christian fiction, Christian romance, and YA or middle grades Christian fiction.
At the moment, I am reading a YA Christian Fiction by Stephanie Perry Moore titled “Finding Your Faith.” It is really good so far.
Tell me something about you as a person. (Likes, hobbies, family anything you would like readers to know.)
I have been married to my high school sweetheart for almost 24 years. We have a son who graduated from high school in May of 2022. I am a minister and an educator. This is my 23rd year as an educator. I have taught grades 3-8. Most of my career, I have taught English language arts and served middle school youth. English has always been my most favorite subject. As a hobby, I journal. I collect stickers, highlighters, pens, washy tape, and more. Most of my journaling is done while studying the Bible.
.What is next? (Events, Projects)
My October 2022 releases are two journals titled “The H.O.P.E. Method. These are both a 90-Day jumpstart into reading God’s word daily. They are a 15-minute and 30-minute Bible study strategy. They also include a daily planning sheet. Please check them out. You won’t be disappointed.
