If you have been around my site for some time you know I love inspirational people. It is important to surround yourself with people that motivate and inspire you. One such person is Author Denise Cook-Godfrey. You are going to love her and her work. Make sure you follow her after you read this interview links are posted.
Tell me about your book.
I published “When a Man is Fed Up-Unlocking the Soul of a Few Good Men” in January of 2022.
This is the gripping story of rescuing the little boy in order to release the soul of the man. Oftentimes, the anger of a man Is not anger at all…but the manifestations stemming from a cycle of trauma!
Why did you choose to become a Christian Fiction Author?
I became a Christian Fiction Author because I envisioned being able to portray raw life issues in dramatic form while being able to put the gospel message in full force. I am also a Playwright, so drama is one of my passions. I am also a Minister of the Gospel, so putting the gospel in motion through writing is also a passion.
What inspired you to write it?
I was inspired to write my latest novel, “When a Man is Fed Up-Unlocking the Soul of a Few Good Men” for a number of reasons: first, I received a prophetic word from an Evangelist with a prophetic anointing on her life. She prophesied in June of 2019 that I would write a book that would be an encouragement to men. I could not relate to this prophecy but I wrote it down and awaited confirmation from the Lord before proceeding. I honestly had no plans for writing such a book. Next, I was inspired to write concerning the trauma that most men face due to a lack of male bonding. So often we as women are afforded several types of self-help from conferences and other avenues for encouragement where men do not. Thirdly, I felt the pull to unlock the soul of the man so that he could express the pain that he has carried for years in order to receive healing.
What is your writing process?
There is no set writing process; however, I love to write sitting in my bedroom, peering out a window. Late evening or early in the morning before work is a good time to write. At times when prompts or inspiration hits, I will use my voice memo on my cell phone so that I do not miss out on anything! I do not use a notebook all of the time but at times I will outline and or write down my thoughts before working on the manuscript. I use a laptop. I never handwrite my chapters.
What is the best part of being an author?
The best part of being an author for me is to hear testimonies from people that my novels or my non-fiction works have helped their lives in some way. I had a young lady testify in church once that since she has read my novels from the “Unequally Yoked” series, she does not do some of the things that she used to do. I was done. I was humbled and praised God for her testimony. Oh, the joy in knowing that God can and will use your work to change lives!
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I do not get to read as much as I would like due to my schedule, but more recently over the past few years, I have enjoyed books by Michelle Stimpson, Tanisha Stewart, D.A. Bourne, Cindy Gunn, and She Nell.
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
I am looking forward to completing the “Blessed Lie” series and also completing “Don’t Push Me”, by D.A. Bourne.
Tell me something about you as a person. (Likes, hobbies, family anything you would like readers to know.)
I love to encourage through dance ministry as well as teaching the gospel. I love a good dramatic movie on Netflix and I love food! I also enjoy spending time with my family. The older I get, the more I see the importance of family bonding.
Do you have anything you would like to add?
I would like to add that I am grateful for the opportunity to be interviewed on this blog. I look forward to connecting with readers as well as other authors in the days ahead.
