Fiction is an umbrella genre. Under the umbrella, there are many subgenres. For example, you can find Historical Fiction, Thriller, Mystery, Romance, and even Christian under the Fiction label. Readers often limit Christian Fiction to the fiction category, however, doing so is an injustice to avid readers. There are several subgenres under the subgenre of Christian Fiction. We are going to talk about five of the many subgenres of Christian Fiction.
Romance
Everyone loves a good romance. Guy meets a girl, they fall in love and live happily ever after. Within the Christian Fiction genre, a reader can find numerous books. These romances may contain affection but rarely do they have graphic scenes of intimacy. Readers will discover some authors do have sex or mention sex in their books. Often the act of lovemaking is shared between two married people however some are not. The stories have everything you love about romance including themes such as enemies to lovers, friends to lovers, and secret lovers.
Mystery
Who doesn’t love a good, who- done -it? Christian Fiction does not disappoint, readers can find mystery within the Christian Fiction genre. Murder is a common thread that will lead readers to twist and turns as they flip the pages. (or swipe right) Mysteries may or may not center around the church. Often the characters themselves are Christian and the church is only slightly mentioned. Readers who binge-watch crime television will find enjoyment in this subgenre.
Thriller
Yep. Heart pounding. Is this happening? THRILLERS are found in Christian Fiction. Some are Romantic Thrillers filled with all the things that keep readers up all night reading. If a reader likes to be on the edge of their seat or the edge of the page then Christian Fiction -Thrillers are available.
YA – Young Adult
Coming-of-age stories are a big trend in fiction. Books that showcase characters growing as they make discoveries and change are labeled YA. Readers should not be put off by the term young adult because most young adult readers are adults in their 30s or older. Readers will find that characters can be young, adults, and saved. Within Christian Fiction you will find YA -Christian authors. These books will have everything a reader enjoys about YA.
Women’s Contemporary Fiction
Stories that take readers through a woman’s journey or have women as the central focus falls into the Women’s Contemporary Fiction category. Women’s Contemporary Fiction is often a subgenre with a subgenre. If a reader is looking for African – American characters the search could be African American and Black Women’s Contemporary Fiction. The same can be said for Latinas, Asians, and Christians. Yes, readers can search African American and Black Christian Women’s Fiction. Searching in this way will lead readers to books that are Christain with Black or African American lead characters.
Christian Fiction is a broad genre and like God, it can’t fit into a box. If readers enjoy reading a particular genre putting Christianity before the search will expose readers to thousands of books
