PDA or Public Displays of A (reader) is important to our society. LOL for a minute you probably thought I was talking about the other PDA. The fact is reading like the common cold is contagious. When a person sees someone reading they instantly become inquisitive and sometimes review their reading habits. What am I talking about and how can you help? Well, I am glad you asked, friend.
What is PDA
The PDA I am referring to is public reading. This can be done with your favorite paperback or ebook. You can even make some journalists happy by reading a printed newspaper or magazine. Print books and magazines are still beautiful forms of reading. Once you have your selected book take it to the park, mall, or beach and read to your heart’s content.
PDA benefits the community
The phenomenon known as FOMO (Fear of missing out) did not start with the internet. Although social media exasperated the condition FOMO was around for years before Google, Facebook, and Instagram. As a young reader, I recall looking through the Scholastic Book order form and searching for a new book. If the other readers were excited about the new Sweet Valley Twins books so I. I had a healthy fear of missing the next book in the series. When you read in public you send a message that someone is missing out on a story. No one wants to miss out and if there is a book or magazine that has you reading in public everyone is going to want to know why.
PDA helps authors
FOMO leads to new discoveries. People are going to want to know who or what you are reading. If you are reading Christian Fiction this is an amazing way to introduce readers to the genre and possibly even to Christ. Your act of public reading helps promote authors without you saying a word. Public reading also has the ability to invoke conversion with potential new reading buddies.
