I am excited to introduce you to one of my favorite authors. She is a great writer and a super sweet woman. Y. Deonna and I met a couple of years ago. She is the author of the day Battle Scarred Love (2 book series) and the Virtuous Trilogy (3 book series). All of her books are must-reads and I am excited she is sharing exclusive information with us about her new project.
Tell me about your latest book.
I am currently working on three at one time. They are all God-focused and dealing with mental illness. The one I hope to have completed soon is Warring Between Faith & Flesh: No Fairytale Ending. It follows the journey of a young woman dealing with mental health issues, her faith in God, and relying on her flesh and not the Holy Spirit. I can’t wait to share it.
Why did you choose to become a Christian Fiction Author?
It chose me. I have always loved writing and I wanted to use writing as a ministry. It’s my prayer that when readers read my books it helps them draw nearer to God and continued to grow and develop their relationship with God.
What inspired you to write it?
I just had a story to tell. I’ve always journaled my thoughts and I always had a vivid imagination. The biggest inspiration was not seeing myself represented in the books I read.
What is your writing process? (Do you write at a particular time or place, use a notebook first?)
I don’t have a process (I have a thought, then I write it down and see how it blossoms from there). I just write when I can. I work full-time and I am also in school, so that has greatly impacted my ability to have a writing schedule. Hence, me working on three books at once and none of them are finished.
What is the best part of being an author?
The best part is meeting the readers and hearing how a book has impacted their life. It’s a great feeling to know they connect with the characters.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Toni Morrison, James Baldwin, SheNell, Elle Kayson, Charlotte Bronte, Edgar Allen Poe, Elise Marion, Vanessa Riley.
What book(s) are you most excited to read next?
I have so many: Post Traumatic Slave Syndrome, Someone Knows My Name, My Face Is Black Is True
Tell me something about you as a person. (Likes, hobbies, family anything you would like readers to know.)
When I’m not writing, I do workshops dealing with mental illness/mental health. I love to bake. There’s something about the process of baking that soothes my soul. Baking and reading are forms of self-care for me.
What is next? (Events, Projects)
My focus is on completing school. I project, God willing that in 2024 I will be back active on the writing scene. Hopefully, I can release the three books I am currently working on between late 2022-2023.
