As my mouth fell open and my eyes popped out of my head, I thought to myself is this really happening? E.N. Joy is after all the Blessedselling author, there are a cross and a pulpit on the cover of the book, and there appears to be stain glass in the background of the cover. I do not have to be a theologian to know this is a Christian Fiction book. However, scheming, weed-smoking, spousal abuse, mental health, and suicide are not topics we as believers are comfortable admitting to doing or talking about with anyone connected to the church.
Thank God for E.N. Joy an author not scared to bring us the truth and wrap it in real-life characters with real-life issues. Do not be put off by the risky subjects in this must-read! E.N Joy does a fantastic job interweaving Gospel with the reality that we all face including her well-written character Deborah. One Sunday at a time is the story of a woman who seemingly has it all however she also is dealing with secrets and hang-ups that can make her risk it all. Deborah faces challenges that we all face at some time in our life. E.N. Joy goes outside of the box to paint a new perspective on healing that I found truthfully refreshing and honest.
Tackling this content could not have been easy with such complex situations however I am one reader that was so glad E.N. Joy took the time to pen this tale. The title may be “One Sunday At A Time” but I am here to tell you that ONE SUNDAY IS ALL YOU NEED to complete this 289-page book. If you are a member of a book club the book comes with questions to guide your group discussion.
