In the post 5Ways to support authors, I mentioned leaving book reviews. Here are three reason why your review has power.
Reviews help readers find authors.
The number of book reviews placed on Amazon has an impact on the that books success. When you leave a review, you are telling Amazon’s search engines to show the book to others.
Reviews connect readers.
Your review connects you to other readers. When you share your thoughts, you are providing feedback to other readers. Your review is a recommendation to other readers.
Reviews provide authors with feedback.
As an author I have been told that you should never read your book reviews. This advice is given because reviews can be mean, hurtful and the purpose of the review is to speak to other readers. Authors often feel like their book is their baby. Mean comments are hurtful. Think of it as someone tell you that your baby is ugly. I think that authors should read reviews. Good reviews keep you moving forward when you fall into the pit of self-doubt. Bad reviews point out flaws that you may want to consider. Having reader feedback is important.
I would love to know your thoughts on this or any blog post. Please leave your blog review in the comment section. Remember to read my post 5 ways to support authors for more information.
