To read or To Be Read: How to tackle your TBR

A new year means new books to read. The challenge is developing a to-be-read list of books you actually read. The TBR list(TO BE READ) is a list of books that the reader hopes to read in the near future. This list can be developed from books that have been discovered through browsing, recommendation, or advertising.

3 Steps to create a TBR list:

Step one: Research

To develop a list research your favorite and new authors. Use search engines in Amazon, Barnes Noble, Books a Million, or your retailer of choice. You can extend your research by searching specific genres or subjects. The research includes asking friends what they are reading. Book recommendations are a powerful and fun way to add books to your list. YouTube and Instagram have books channels that can also be useful. You can search #booktube and #bookstagram on the respective sites.

Step Two: Format

Now that you know what you want to read, we need to decide how you are going to read. Books are found in audio, ebook, hardback, and paperback formats. These options create availability to meet the needs of the reader. Readers can choose a format that works best with their time and schedule. Readers should not feel limited or a sense of loyalty to a format. It is common and helpful to listen to an audiobook while driving, have an ebook for fiction, and hard or paperback books for another genre such as nonfiction.

Step Three: Tracking progress and logging new titles

Readers will need to log the list of books they would like to read and track their process. List books to be read on paper or in an electronic document. As the books are read they can be highlighted, crossed off, or moved to the done section of the list. Logging and tracking will allow the reader to celebrate progress.

How many books are you planning to read this year? In the comment section list the number of books, the titles, or authors. Sharing your goal may add to someone’s list or be the motivation they need to read more.
