Picture it, a rainy day, cool breeze, a cozy chair, and soft music playing in the background. That is an ideal setting to relax and read. I can imagine being surrounded by hundreds of books and reading. I wish this were my reality. Life does not always provide those perfect opportunities to read, so I have four unconventional places where I find some of my best reading time.
The Car
On your lunch break or your commute to work, the car is a perfect place to read. In several posts, we talked about the benefit of audiobooks. (here) With the use of audio, you can read several books in a month and relax as you fight traffic or fold laundry.
Waiting
You would be surprised how much we spend time waiting for things. We wait in lines at car pick-up for our children, the store, and the post office. As parents of active children, you spend four or more hours a week waiting for our child to practice (insert your child’s sport here). Reading on your phone or tablet is a great way to deal with waiting.
In the bathroom
We all must GO. You can read while you are waiting for your body to perform its natural function. Had a hard day at work? You can read while taking a long bubble bath. The bathroom for many is a sanctuary and the best place to read.
Before the meeting
I am often quoted as saying “I like my drama in my book, not in my life”. Therefore, I support reading before the work meeting. You can avoid the office gossip or taking part in the gossip by getting lost in the pages of a great story. This also works if you eat lunch in a common area.
Well friends those are my favorite unconventional places to read. Please let us know your favorite places to read in the comment section. If you have not done so, please subscribe to the blog. I post new content every Sunday and Wednesday. In honor of my next release and 1st independent project, I post a sneak-peek into Walking Crooked with Christ on Fridays for the month of October.
