Why Reading is self-care

Spring is a great time to refresh, and that includes your self-care routine. Before you go out and purchase the latest face creams and body scrubs, I want to tell you about one of my favoirte forms of self-care- reading.  Hi, my name is She Nell. I am an author, blogger, independent publisher, and Literacy teacher. Reading is one of the best forms of self-care, and here is why:

Reading is self-care because it provides a much-needed brain break

Our brains process a million things a minute. We are inundated with obligations and task lists. Our brains need and deserve a break. Reading is a great brain break. Although I love ebooks, a physical book can provide a break from screens. Reading physical books provides an experience that allows our brains to rest. As an educator, I  provide students with opportunities to relax and read. I have found that as little as ten minutes can help students refocus. Reading is a great way to unwind and center our spirits.

Reading is self-care because it is a cheap vacation

If you don’t have the money to charter a luxury yacht and sail to a private beach, don’t worry; you can still be swept away on an uncharted island by a billionaire. How? By picking up one of the thousand books available to you. There are hundreds of vacations and friends waiting to meet you in books. The destinations are endless, and some are even out of this world. The average price of a paperback is about 12.99, and an ebook can be purchased for as low as .99 ( some are even free). For as little as .99, you can take a trip anywhere.  What are your favorite book destinations? Let us know in the comments below.

Reading time is self-care time

Your self-care practices are a necessary part of your ability to function as a human. Taking time to read is a form of self-care. You are telling the world that you are in control of your free time and with that time you want to explore new worlds and people. Your exploration is valid and limitless as you turn pages or swipe left in your book. Friend, when you take time to read, you are taking time for self-care.

What books are you reading for self-care? I would like to challenge you to read so ten to thirty minutes a day then report back to this blog how you feel. If you need some books to add to your list, check out this article: New Releases 2025

Sometimes, we want to read a good story but have only a short amount of free time. That is one of the reasons I wrote the Living a Blessed Lie series. This 90-minute read is perfect for your lunch break or your kids’ football practice.

They say they are Living their Blessed Life, but someone is LIVING A BLESSED LIE.

Hey friend, before you go, please join my list so that we can keep in touch. I send out weekly chats and updates.
