3 Ways to Protect your Physical Book when you Read on the Go

I get it; no matter how many ebooks we buy, there is nothing like holding a physical book in your hands. Holding a physical book can be a comforting feeling. We are used to holding physical books while snuggling under covers on a cool evening and diving into a new world or field of study. I get it. But if you are anything like me, you take at least one book everywhere you travel. Seriously, I always have a book. By the way, hi, my name is She Nell. I am an author, blogger, independent publisher, and Literacy teacher. You don’t have to worry about ruining your physical books as you toss them in your backpacks and purses. I have a couple of solutions to help you protect your physical books.

Protect your physical books with book covers

If you went to school in the late 80s or early 90s, you may remember we covered our textbooks with paper bags or if you purchased book covers for your books. By the way, if you don’t remember covering your books because you were born in the 90s like the album -welcome. Covering the book allowed you to protect it so that you would not have to pay for book damages at the end of the school year. Book covers are still available on book sites and Amazon. You can grab them in different sizes and decorate them or leave them plain. If you don’t want to support a certain business or are unsure if the cover will fit, you can DIY your book cover. If you would like a tutorial on a DIY book cover, let me know in the comments.

Protect your physical book with a book pouch

As I mentioned, I take a book with me everywhere I go. If my book can’t go, neither can I. So, you can imagine that I have ruined a number of books because they get tossed into whatever tote, purse, or bookbag I am carrying at the time. Not to mention the countless times my water bottle has leaked or my ink pen has scraped the covers. The solution to my problem was getting a book pouch. I was able to find a waterproof book pouch on Amazon however, you can also find them on Etsy.  Simply slip your book in the case, zip or button, and you are ready to go. Book pouches can also be a DIY project by sewing or crocheting the book pouch.

Protect your physical book by just getting the E-Book (too)

Ok, hear me out: the best way to protect your physical book is by purchasing the ebook, too. I am speaking from personal experience. I could not wait to read my signed copy of The Woman God Created You to Be: Finding Success Through Faith- Spiritually, Personally, and Professionally by  Kimberla Lawson Roby. I happily tossed it in every bag and read it on my commute. Needless to say, the paperback was not as beautiful as it was on the day it was signed. My solution is simple: if it is a signed copy or a collectors’ edition, I  purchase the book as a companion. This is how I can literally take a book with me everywhere I go.
