How to decorate your bookshelves like a pro (look out HGTV)

Call me crazy but I love bookshelves. I am the child who had dreams about living in a library and the adult who will stay in the bookstore for hours. I love good books and I can not lie – Sorry 90’s moment shout to Sir Mix a Lot. Since I am being honest and lowkey I also stare at people’s bookshelves when they post pics or on booktube. (YouTube) . If bookshelf decor was a HGTV topic I would have a show. That being said I have a few ways to help you boost up your bookshelf welcome to my edition of Flip my Shelf -She Nell.

We all have them – they are a part of who we are – we all love them – they are our COLLECTIBLES. It doesn’t matter if it is a Star Wars collection, lego designs you put together or a miniverse, what matters is the fact that you love them. Collectibles represent happiness that is why you purchase them, the item brings a sense of joy to your heart. Surround your shelves with books you love and collectibles you gather. You can display them in between the books or on the edges of the shelves. Another great way to add collectibles is to simply place them on separate shelves as if they were an addition to your book collection.

Decorate your bookshelves like a pro by adding pictures

Somewhere in a box, drawer, on your phone, or photo album under the coffee table you have your favorite memories. Tons of photos from vacations to funny moments all hidden until you need something of your great aunt comes to visit. You took those photos because you wanted to remember the moment or people. Those photos are a great addition to your bookshelf. You can put them in frames that match your bookshelf color or use clear acrylic frames (all available at your local Dollar Tree). Depending on your personality you can mix the frames and photos. I like to add the pictures I took with the authors next to my signed copies.

Decorate your bookshelves like a pro by arranging books

Book placement is the game changer although it varies among readers and shelf configuration. Books can be placed in order by genre, dates purchased read and unread, and height, the list is truly endless. Another popular way is to arrange the books by color. This provides a rainbow effect and is especially pretty with white shelves. The point is to arrange the books. I fancy a mixture of some front-facing some stacked while others line the shelf. I also have my books in categories. Books I have written, books that are signed, books that are my favorite, books about writing and business, spiritual growth, books that were gifted, and general non-fiction. You will notice that I don’t put books that I have not read on my shelf. I have a special read next basket for those.

Now what

Now to decorate your bookshelf like a pro you take what you like from the above and put it together on your shelf. As a bonus, you can add fairy lights, LED lights, and or vines to add a little extra pizzazz to your books. Well, I hope you found this edition of Flip My Shelf She Nell exciting I post content weekly right here so be sure to subscribe.
